Design

Some people have doctors for parents. Some have a really impressive lawyer/professor combination. I have graphic designers for parents and I couldn’t be more proud. How many other kids were encouraged to paint snail shells and spend afternoons sketching the interior design for fairy homes? My parents raised me to love art in all its forms and to believe that everything is possible – all you need is a glue gun, a ballpoint pen, maybe some scalloped scissors. They nourished my creativity and taught me to see the finest details, as well as the big picture. With their help, I had fun dabbling with programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, even at a young age. They tried to teach me their fancy computer tricks and to be patient while the photos loaded and not to feel like smashing my laptop when a page would unexpectedly quit. I’ve learned a lot from them, but I feel more comfortable with tangible arts – like writing, photography, cooking – so when it came to creating the perfect logo for my blog, I knew exactly who to turn to. The penknife design is the result of a tag team effort between my parents, Rick and Melissa. Check out my mom’s amazing holiday artworks on her website.
